I cant help but feel that this is simply another person telling us what we should and shouldnt wear based on personal beliefs and on the notion that men are mentally incapable of perceiving women as anything more than objects. Just because a womans bikini bares her midriff doesnt mean diddly. It means its hot out and she wants to get a tan. Wearing more clothes solely based on the principle that a stranger will not respect you otherwise is ludicrous. If you want to talk about power...youre giving it to them. Shaming women into wearing more modest clothing on the beach is a step back in womens rights and everything women have been fighting for. They fought for our right to be who we are. To not be ashamed of our bodies. To not let men define us. To make our own decisions. Being modest is good, important even. But on a hot day on the beach or on a boat...gimme a break. If you think that bathing suits are too revealing and want a new take on super cute swimwear from yesteryear, bring it...I love it...Ill wear it. And if I wear it, I wear it for me, not because I am afraid some meat head will see me as an object otherwise. Dont try to tell me that by wearing a bikini I will not be seen as an equal, that I will not be seen as in control or taken seriously. If a mans initial instinct when he sees that kind of skin to fabric ratio...well, so be it. He can think what he wants, but ultimately you use your words, your mind and your actions to demand respect. Women of the world, be who you are and dont apologize. You have nothing to be ashamed of.
