I cant help thinking that if it had been Swanage FC that had been beaten 7-1 in Brazil last night everybody would be saying that they shouldnt feel too bad, and that its very creditable getting so far. Once again we find its one rule for Swanage and another for Brazil. I dont often watch football, and that game was the first Id watched for a couple of years. I cant help thinking I must have known something. What a game. First of all a load of guys dressed like Dennis the Menace came out, then another load dressed like daffodils. It was fairly obvious to me who was going to win. Theres only one way to defeat renegade Beano characters, and thats with a slipper. I was reminded why I dont watch a lot of football when I heard a pundit on BBC declare: Its not enough being a great TEAM; youve got to be great WINNERS; THATs what makes a winning team. Hard as it is not to concur with such circular logic, I cant help feeling that in my campaign to stop cliched metaphor I still have a mountain to climb.
