I cant quite get my head around musicians, bands that put out - TopicsExpress

I cant quite get my head around musicians, bands that put out several new releases each year. As a consumer I sometimes feel bombarded with their constant output. Im generally talking about musicians Im into and want to buy, but then Im not a collector, I neither have the space or the money to be one, maybe if I did, I too would be buying everything out there, but I doubt it. Maybe its just the way I approach the arts in general, as a painter Im used to consuming slowly, attempting to understand something about the process of making, looking or listening for a long time even at the most simple of objects and sounds. If it was created quickly then why? and what are the benefits to the final results? Neither am I one of these people who equate toil with quality, this was knocked out of me at Uni 16 years ago, things made quickly are definitely as valid as something that might take a year to make, this I know. If one has created something then why not put it out there, is there any validity in the artist controlling their output? selecting their best works each time they go public? I think so. These are just some thoughts that cropped up recently, in a couple of conversations I had with some fellow music makers and are by no means meant to criticise my more prolific music making friends.
