I cant say I am a great fan of Festus Odimegwu,but i find it sad, that he has been pressurized to resign,over comments he made about census figures being unreliable. Odimegwu, only gave voice to feelings, many Nigerians have had, about the census figures we have been dealing and planning with since Independence. It has been widely touted that the figures from the North, have always been suspiciously high. I am not in a position to speak conclusively on those figures, but with Jigawa excised from Kano, its still strange that Kano retains a larger population figure than Lagos and even Oyo State. Thats just a case in point. What is more unsettling is that no one has really been able to counter Odimegwus claims of inconsistency or abuse where our Census is concerned. Rather, there was a diatribe from Kwankwaso of Kano State, against the person,rather than issues raised by Odimegwu. Now, the man has lost his job. Is this an attempt by the Federal Government to curry favour or better still, placate Kwankwaso, who is a truculent opponent of The President?
