I can’t begin to tell you how blessed I feel today. As many of you know, I’m a dreamer. I love dreaming up lavish parties and have fantasies about over-the-top events. However, reality usually keeps me from writing champagne checks my beer bottle budget can’t afford. I wanted so badly to throw Maria a 50th Birthday Celebration that she wouldn’t forget. It wasn’t lavish or over-the-top, but it was just the kind of party Maria wanted and I couldn’t have pulled it off without the help of all our loving and generous friends. Last night really drove home, for me, the depth and breadth of the friendships Maria and I have. Many of the people who helped last night are friends we’ve had for 20-30+ years. And some, we’ve only known a short time but feel like life-long friends. It is so magical when we all come together and build something wonderful in the name of love and friendship. Thank you so much to everyone who participated in any way last night. We could have planned and executed the perfect event, but it wouldn’t have meant a thing if she hadn’t walked in to find a broad representation of all the loved ones who have touched her life over the past 50 years. Specifically, I’d like to thank Alicia Gates for the amazing JaCiva cakes and chicken, Don Hood for the beautiful flower arrangements, Gina Valdez for pulled pork, Patti O’Dora for creating the memory book & making pulled pork, Karon & Bubba Brusseau for the beef and refried beans, Mom for helping with all the shopping, set-up and clean-up, Lotta Liquor for loaning me the chafing dishes, Lauren Palmer for taking photos, Cassie, Carlos, Kevin, Scott Seibert and Don Hood for set-up, Casey for set-up and for keeping the buffet replenished, Brian, Steve, Bill, Tempest, Babalou, and JJ Valentine for clean-up, Tarell, Brandon & Antonio for the lights, Tim Kindell & Elite for the wonderful live music, Richard at the Red Rose Ballroom and all the wonderful staff at My Bartender. I also want to thank all our friends who made monetary donations and trusted that I would build a party they could be proud to be a part of: Bill Hinkly, Scott Seibert, Corey & Scoty, Cheryl Hall, Vesta & T, Steve Maller, Jane & Shelley, Darcelle & Roxy, Deborah, Scotty Boxx & Cicely, Vanessa & Kevin, Casey Ipock, Gina Valdez, Kevin & Jeff, Maurice and Cecilia Mitchell. Finally, a special thanks to Kourtni Capree Duv for the incredible rendition of the birthday song and Kevin Cook for the most beautiful birthday speech ever. You make me love you more and more every day. Thank you for bringing the heart to the party. p.s., please forgive me if I have forgotten to name you in this post. It is so very difficult to sit and visualize everyone who helped as there were so many. Please know that I appreciate each and every kind act that made my dream for this party a reality. It takes a village and oh what a village we’ve got!! We are truly, truly blessed!
