I can’t really do a whole match report for yesterday as I - TopicsExpress

I can’t really do a whole match report for yesterday as I didn’t get the chance to stay at any game long enough so it’s going to be a compilation, U11.5 was the first one I got to and they locked horns with Ohoka in what was a real tight game, these guys have really stepped up and are making big noises in this grade leaving them near the top of the table, scores were pretty much tied when I left and headed to Amberley to watch what was left of our U13 Blue side take on Kaiapoi Gold, when I arrived there U13 Green were in control of their game against Woodend and went on to finish the job, this U13 Blue team has been decimated through injury with top try scorers Fletcher Newell and Braxton Taua, top points scorer Jack Marshall backed up by Ben Dando and Archie Marchant on the injury list, the late pass of a fitness test saw Robert Brown return to the paddock after 3 weeks out which gave us a bare 15, Kaiapoi got off to a good start after some sloppy defence work from the Ashley boys and found themselves 2 tries up after 10 minutes but Ashley started to find their feet when disaster struck and they found themselves down to 14 due to a knee in the eye of Del Rio Mackintosh, things really couldn’t get much worse and such a depleted team were going to stand no chance against the squad of 20 Kaiapoi players resulting in the haemorrhaging of numerous tries, disaster hadn’t finished with us when Connor Moir landed badly in a tackle leaving him with a broken bone in his shoulder, we want to forget this week ever happened, Back at the Domain D2 were running riot and I knew things were going well when I was greeted by mad dog in a Woodend jersey but I didn’t realise how well, 55 points up at half time was making for a grim day for Woodend and the way this D2 side has come together over the last few weeks things weren’t going to get any better them either, it was a game of two halves and unfortunately for them neither half was Woodends, crunch time arrived when D1 came out looking to make it 11 from 11 in front of a large home crowd but Saracens had different idea’s, only a couple of minutes in Bus intercepted a pass leaving the back door wide open for an early 7 point lead, there was little between these sides but the worrying point for me was how many Saracens were getting to the breakdown and it was to prove our undoing, Saracens defence was strong in midfield and they were giving little away but on the other side of it they were attacking well with very simple but effective ball handling and running lines, the rock solid defensive pairing of Ethan Cameron and Bus was broken up when Ethan had to leave the affray due to a head injury, the line out and scrums were all about Ashley, the home pack were dominant in the set piece but it all came back to that breakdown thing again, Saracens were committing more numbers gaining turnover ball time and time again giving them a 27-12 lead and although a late comeback was on the cards after a late try it was just too late, our Senior side have done incredibly well this year going through the first stage of the competition with a 100% winning record which is remarkable in such a tight competition but now it’s time to show real character and rebuild for the rest of the season.
