I can’t remember when I started filtering but if I had to guess - TopicsExpress

I can’t remember when I started filtering but if I had to guess I would say it was sometime around being born.. ish. As a child people would call it day dreaming but in all actuality these were my first attempts at filtering the real world into my own little world. Since then I would have to say I’ve become very accomplished in my ability to tune out excess (not ignore mind you.. you must always be aware.. in this, picture turning the volume down during car sales commercial); without this life would be fundamentally hectic and Wal-Mart shopping would not be an option. I might be passing through said store with: babies screaming, the lady in front of me trying to pay in a currency only accepted at Chuck-E-Cheese, a five year old eating chocolate off the floor then grabbing my pant leg to pull themselves up, an old lady from the line over nudging her chart into my line, frantic cries of help over the PA system from over worked employees… (deep breath).. at which point a dragon flies down and sets fire to the old lady causing an explosion (turns out Metamucil is extremely flammable) that melts the child’s chocolate even further so he joins in the screaming, then gesus returns in aisle 4 but the PA announcement makes it sound as if he’s looking for lost bowls? the dragon then eats the child’s chocolate.. more screaming ensues.. the dragon starts crying at this point.. and.. I’m in my own little world looking at the magazine stand going.. “huh.. Lady Ga Ga has gained weight..” Filtering allows me the option of participating in the parts of the world I want without the burdens of unnecessary fluff that makes up a majority of the day-to-day. This is almost counter culture in today’s times with popularity of self publishing and everyone being such an open book with hearts on their sleeves. If someone were to inquire about my heart an old man would greet you and say.. “wait here while I go get it.” You would then hear him patter down a series of stairs... a creaky door opening.. more patter.. and then he would return, winded, with a box marked this side up. Once the duct tape and dust had been removed you would see a note on the bottom that read.. second star to the right.. straight on till morning.. which by the way.. is where I keep all things I care about.. my own little world.. filtered through the stained glass window I’ve created.. all kinds of light way may hit me.. but only colors come out.. giving shape to my being.. keeping the outside world just there.. on the outside.. where it belongs.. it’s not that I don’t love the world I live in.. I just prefer to stay in my own.. which is ok.. they know me there.. May 2012.. inspired by something Melissa Garcia said to Tiffany Holmes
