I caught up with Kenneth Gilbert on the back of yet another SA championship and asked him about the upcoming Roof of Africa. 1) Has winning another SA title given you more confidence and reassurance that you are good enough to podium or win the Roof of Africa? Yes I would say it has given me more confidence and reassurance, especially Ending my season on a high makes me happy and more determined on preparing for the Roof of Africa! 2) What is the toughest thing about the Roof for you? I would have to say, Keeping my body hydrated and fueled with food as its long hours on the bike, also the extreme passes on the Gold loop have become really tough so to keep my body at its best I need to fuel it correctly. 3) What do you look forward to about the Roof of Africa? I just love to compete, there is so much that goes into this event, its so awesome to be apart of it all. Every year The Roof of Africa gets bigger so having all the international riders coming over is really awesome competing against them. 4) Is there a lot of pressure on you being a local champion against the international stars? I wouldnt say a lot of pressure but sure there is pressure, I put pressure on myself to do well. 5) How does your training differ from normal preparations, to preparations for the Roof? It doesnt differ at all really, all that I do different is practice with GPS and suspension setup. I also train 6) Are you feeling good about the Roof, or are you nursing some hidden injuries? Im feeling great for this years Roof, Myself and my team #ProudlyBidvestYamaha have been working hard this year on being best prepared. I have been exceptionally fortunate in having no serious injuries this year , I did twist my ankle at an Enduro a few weeks back but it healed up great so Im feeling as strong as ever. 7) How important is your support crew at the Roof? Support crew are everything at The Roof of Africa, without them the Roof would almost be impossible, they pretty much do everything, all that the riders do is ride, rest, eat and sleep! The Proudly Bidvest Yamaha team are there with me the whole way, anything and everything I need they are there. Im very blessed to have the support crew that I have, they all play a vital role on race day. 8) Do you have anything to say to your fans who will be coming to the Roof? All fans must be safe in the mountains , the roads are narrow , full of people and major cliffs sit beside them so please drive safe, but have fun, Cheer as loud as you can and support Yamaha!
