I celebrate Cesar Chavez. In the day I became a migrant worker, and a member of the Teamsters union. Working for Diamond Fruit in Oregon, I lived in a migrant camp owned by them. Our room was no more than 15X15, with a trash burning stove and a tattered mattress on a ply wood board. The bathing was communal--as was the water--a spigot outside, a muddy mess, also enjoyed by dogs, cats and whatever else. One night, we were awakened by noises. The company was bringing in wetbacks -- people they had brought across the Mexican border themselves. A family of 6 to occupy the same living space we were living in. My take on immigration.....look largely to the corporations.
