I cheered loudly and while I didnt think California Chrome would win, I sure wanted him too. The underdog from birth, a 77 year old trainer who worked for this his entire life, and owners who wouldnt sell 51% ownership for 6 million. Now thats a story and likely soon to be a movie. Do I hope we have a triple crown winner, sure do. But while I relished in that victory, I also thought of the OTTBs here, the tattooed friends whos race careers ended long ago. They are a few who somehow never quite got to the slaughter plant but each and everyone of them here fell through the cracks at some point in time. Our own Sunkissed Angel was sold for slaughter and my youngest found her in the pen. Unbeknownst to her at the time, she was being fattened up before hand. She figured it out fast enough and begged me to save her. Well, its been a long and interesting road to say the least. Never forget our four legged athletes. Its not a disease of the TB, its prevalent in our roper sand reign ears and our cutting horses. In our jumpers and our eventers and our standardbred racers as well. Every single one of our horse sport breeds needs to be responsible for ensuring a future for the fine animals who give us there all.
