I completely hated the newer Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie (2005) and am forever endeared to and loyal to the 1971 Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory ... BUT ... digging through an old box I stumbled across my ragged 1964 copy of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The Oompa Loompa songs from the 1971 film are not in the book, but (as I just verified) at least the first one from the 2005 film is completely based on a song in the book. So, if I had read the book first I might have hated the 1971 film. Just like if you had read Wizard of Oz before seeing the movie in 1939 you would have screamed, Hey! The slippers were SILVER not Ruby ?!!
