I confess before you this morning that the gospel of grace, the gospel of costly grace, not the gospel of cheap grace that demands nothing, is not only genuine and reliable, but also unique and distinctive. Alternative gospel theologians and atheist philosophers like Richard Dawkins are mere echoes of every period of Christian history that offers a substitute message to the truth of the incarnation and the resurrection. Sometimes persuasive must-reads, occasionally “lucid and wise,” “brilliant, articulate, and impolite,” they still remain dangerous innovations that expound a different gospel of salvation or no salvation at all. Our sermon today comes from St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Yaphank, giving a critical account of theologies which are perceived to soften the message of the Gospel: definitely food for thought on how to properly live into that Gospel.
