I considered ending it often when I was a young kid. Poverty, a hateful mother, a violent father, left me feeling so hopeless it was all I could do to go on. I sat at the precipice of life and death time and again, trying to find a reason to believe. What saved me was a deep belief in something else, a voice inside that told me that it had to be better than that. It was the tiniest little sliver of light. I kept staring at it, holding onto it, praying to it, determined to believe that it was going to grow larger over time. And it did. The little light that knows. May we always find a sliver of light when we need it most. May we support each other in shamelessly sharing our inner worlds so that no one suffers alone. And may we give each other light when we need it most. Surely there is enough light to go around.
