I continue to be awed and inspired by each section of Ps 119. As stated before – each one is a prayer and a praise from the Psalmist heart. When you read it in this way – you can’t help but feel his heartbeat and long for the same things. Today is vss. 33-40 – “Teach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes; and I shall keep it unto the end. Give me understanding, and I shall keep your law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart. Make me to go in the path of your commandments; for therein do I delight. Incline my heart unto your testimonies, and not to covetousness. Turn away my eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way. Establish your word unto your servant, who is devoted to they fear. Turn away my reproach which I fear; for your judgments are good. Behold, I have longed after your precepts: quicken me in your righteousness.” He continues to ask for teaching and understanding that he can be consumed with his whole heart. God wants our whole heart, not a divided one. He says ‘make me’ go this way, ‘incline my heart’ to follow after You! David knows this goes against our fleshly desires. He knows our eyes tend to stray onto other things, so he says revive the desire in me. He longs, as he would say in Ps 42 – as the deer longs for water, so my soul longs for You. Is that your heart? I know that’s mine, tho my eyes stray and my flesh pulls away – my heart desires the things of God – ask and He will give you His desires – oh how sweet Saints! Doesn’t get any better on one hand and yet it gets sweeter every day on the other!
