I continue with my “challenge” for posting three things I am - TopicsExpress

I continue with my “challenge” for posting three things I am thankful for and of course, it must come with a few extra words. Last night I was restless, worried about someone I love. Eventually, I crawled into bed, exhausted and willing myself to sleep. An hour later, Fred scratched at the bedroom door. He wanted me to take him out. He acted as though he had to go potty, when we all know that Fred the forager was seeking any hidden treasure that might be found beneath the midnight sky. I opened the door and Fred, Hedlee and Buddy went single file out the door. I followed them. The moon was full and glorious, the crickets chirped with delight as our resident owl was standing guard high on a branch in our big cone pine tree. Sometimes I forget that the place where we call home is like a dream. I scan the darkened landscape as Hedlee, Fred and Buddy return to the shelter of our home and settle in for the night. Fred looks inside Hedlee’s crate for non-existent treats; while Buddy struggles with rearranging his bed just right. Hedlee jumps up on our bed, gives me a hug and kiss; and then creeps slowly and carefully to my soundly sleeping husband, gently touching his face with her nose before curling up in a ball for the remainder of the night. I take my spot on the south side of the bed, next to my snoring husband. I watch his chest move up and down. His face is silhouetted by the moonlight and in that gentle glow I am reminded of how much I love this man. In a few paragraphs, one can see I have so much to be thankful and the assigned number of “three” is completely insufficient to cover one single night. I am thankful for the full moon, a sky filled with stars, the sound of crickets and the hoot of an owl. I am blessed to live in a place that I could never have imagined as a child. The bounty of its beauty is truly a dream come true. I am glad for the shelter I live within, as modest as it is; and I am blessed to have a comfortable place to rest my head after working and writing and being. I am thankful for the bond and trust I have with a rescued dog that continues to overcome her past and is now kissing her future. I am thankful for the time I have with a man I have known for decades and I am glad for the life, love and dreams we have built together.
