I copy this from my friend Candy Kyler Browns post over at our friends on the other side of the hedgerow, the 92nd BG: Remembering them at Christmas, just as we do each day, With every post and photo, they are never far away. We think of how lonely a Christmas day would be, When they were miles away from friends and family. They longed to read of their loved ones in letters from home, In hopes to remain positive and not to feel so all alone. And when they wrote their letters and shared stories of their days, They’d be careful not to write about the dangers along their ways. They wouldnt mention the horrors witnessed flying in perilous skies. They’d spare them the anguish by the exclusion, so it wasnt really lies. Our Can Do boys and men, who were so honorable and so daring, Provided Christmas cheer to the orphans to express their caring. I suppose it helped to fill a void they would certainly feel. And in missing their own children, it would for a time help them deal. How proud we are of our heroes, their courage we don’t forget. And their gift to us of our freedom remains the best present yet! It is the pride in and appreciation of our 92nd that connects us here, And provides a chance to wish kindred spirits a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! On behalf of my co-Admins. Jim Synan and Kimberly Peterson and the best historian a WWII page can have, Jigs Bumper-aka Ian White, I wish each of you a merry and blessed Christmas, and a new year of 2015 where we continue to honor and remember those of the 305th and all WWII veterans who were willing to give all to assure us the freedoms we all cherish. My father sent this card to his kid brother while serving with the 305th on Project Casey Jones in St. Trond/St. Truiden, Belgium, late 1945.
