I could have shot. I recall years back working for Brooksville Police Department. I pulled over a vehicle and the driver fled on foot. I gave chase for about two blocks and was able to tackle the suspect. He fought me, hard. He punched me. I tried to taser him and it had no affect. He was able to take the taser from me. I was scared, out of breath and I looked up and saw at least 20 African American residents standing around me.. I asked for help. Fought for five more minutes, and screamed for help again. Not one person helped me. I considered shooting him and actually drew my gun. Right then my back up ( Diana Dominguez-Lopez and Donald Miles ) arrived to help and he gave up. He only gave up because he was slightly more tired than I. ( Thank God for Golds Gym) Had I shot him to ensure he did not Taser me and take my gun.. Had I shot to ensure I could defend myself from the exhaustion.. Had I shot because I GENUINELY thought I may die, the headline would have read Unarmed black man gunned down by white Officer and I would be on the news. Al Sharpton would arrive and everyone would vomit up their shitty opinion. I have been there. Sometimes shooting an unarmed man is justified. I had a wife and kid to go home to. Another ten seconds and I would have killed him and slept like a baby. Thanks to the circumstances and my partners who worked hard to find me I did not HAVE to. But I would have. Why should a cop simply trying to survive be put through such media hysteria? You either know, or you do not know. Everything else is bullshit. I Will never forget what Diana said three hours later when she saw the suspect already bonded out of jail.. Shawn I saw him walking and it gave me goosebumps He was out in three hours. Lets let the evidence come in before we judge this cop. Jesse Jackson should realize that civil rights apply to white cops as well. They count too.
