I could not possibly agree with this post by Michael Eisenberg more. I would not change a word. I watch these shas videos and I quickly forget just how brilliant Rav Ovadia was. I watch rabbis struggle for more power and I am disappointed, embarrassed, and quite frankly, disgusted. A rabbi should be a learned individual who should be there to offer support and guidance when needed. A rabbi should be a role model who speaks thoughtfully and is careful with his words. These individuals who demand political power and press coverage and who claim ownership over God but end up disgracing Him might be good politicians, but rabbis, they are not. At least not in the traditional sense of the word or what I was used to from the old country. Michael calls for rabbis to stick to being rabbis and politicians stick to being politicians. I say amen.
