I couldnt have said it better myself. Thank you LarryandSusan Mills for putting into words what Ive been thinking... This is gonna be a long one.. The news report about the Texas nurse testing positive for Ebola is especially horrifying to me and should be to everyone in this country. The ER nurse was doing her job, rendering aid to a patient who came to the ER for medical help. I hope everyone understands, our Law Enforcement, ER Nurses and Doctors, the ER staff (clerks, janitors, etc), Firefighters, EMTs, and Paramedics in this country are not provided with biocontainment suits to wear everyday while on the job. How many times have you seen an admissions clerk at an ER department wearing contamination gear? The statement made by the head of the CDC about a breach in protocol angers me beyond measure. There is NO true protocol for Ebola at this time. In most cases, our First Responders are well trained and outfitted with the proper equipment to do their jobs successfully but this particular battle, Ebola, is one, we are woefully unprepared for. The news each day clearly shows we do not understand this virus, how it is spreads, or how long it takes before a patient exhibits signs. Everyone know there isnt a vaccination to protect our First Responders or our Military personnel. In truth, our hospitals, our First Responders and Military are not yet equipped to handle this virus but they are doing the best they can with what they have. Pointing a finger at the very people who will be our first line of defense in this battle is unacceptable, shameful and beneath the head of the CDC whose very JOB is to define a plan to combat this disease. Like so many in our current administration this jerk is so busy pointing fingers and covering his political behind, he doesnt have time to do the job we hired him to do. One of Buds favorite quotes seems fitting here If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. Obviously it is pretty apparent the head of the CDC is not part of the solution right? I am so angry that we are still allowing flights to continue to the U.S. from the countries where the virus is rampant. Everyone knows the first response to a highly contagious disease is quarantine yet our leaders refuse to do this. I am horrified our government thinks pointing a thermometer at someones head, AFTER they flown across the world to enter our country, is the best defense against this disease. It is my understanding the victim who recently died in Texas didnt have a fever when he arrived in the U.S. so obviously the thermometer plan is not a plan at all, but the governments way of attempting to mollify the citizens. Are the airline personnel and passengers on the flights coming into the U.S. from these affected nations considered collateral damage? What about the health and safety of the customs agents ARMED with thermometers and the innocent passengers arriving from other countries? Im especially horrified our government thinks sending our Military into these countries to offer aid, without having a vaccination to protect them first, is acceptable. I guess it is safe to assume the ones in charge, making these decisions, dont have any family members assigned to the troops being sent over or First Responders in their families? I am FURIOUS our government continues to leave our southern borders in state of disarray, allowing anyone to enter. Seems to me, the lack of following PROTOCOL lies solely at the feet of our leaders. I guess in all retrospect, as much as I hate Spains decision to euthanize a dog, at least Spain is trying to protect their people. I am the wife of a retired Game Warden, the daughter of a retired Captain of our local Fire Department, the daughter in law of a retired Captain of the Georgia State Patrol, and the mother of an active Firefighter II/EMT I of one of the largest and busiest counties in Georgia. Believe me when I say, I am fully aware that our First Responders know the risks of their jobs when they accept their positions and I also know from years of experience these risks do not lessen their resolve or commitment to serve and protect the citizens of their communities. Ive lived with this resolve and determination for most of my life and I am proud of each and every one of these HEROES. Please dont stick your heads in the sand. If we can not protect the very people we depend upon to protect us, then what the heck good are we? Call your Governor and your elected representatives and demand they provide support, training, and equipment for our First Responders and Military personnel, demand they close our borders and come up with a PLAN to address these problems. Please do YOUR JOB as a citizen and call, call, call! Its time our representatives did their jobs..
