I couldnt write this yesterday because I was a little too emotional. Our first child together, Judy Ann Irvin, was born on March 29, 1976. She was born two months premature due to an irregularity in Peggys cervix. Her lungs werent mature enough for her to survive outside the incubator. Technology hadnt progressed enough to help her. The doctor told me that we could keep her alive on a respirator, but she would always have to be on a machine. I made the decision to turn off the machine on the fifth day to see if she could breathe on her own. The nursery attendant allowed me to hold her until she stopped breathing. I didnt want her to go out alone. When the doctor said Peggy was strong enough, we started trying again. She was soon pregnant again. She had a procedure done to ensure she could carry full term. Thats how Joshua Irvin entered our lives. She had the procedure done once more after that and thats how our Sara Irvin came to be. We made it even though males who lose a child dont. We will celebrate 40 years of marriage next month. I love you Peggy, Joshua and Sara
