If its an abnormal read it prompts physicians the heart is potentially not functioning correctly and further diagnostic testing is ordered; much of the time, with treatment, these defects have good survival rates. But going un-diagnosed can be fatal. UTAH is the FIRST state to pass in legislation that this simple screen be mandatory in all healthcare facilities to a newborn infant.
