I decided to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of Ladies First by replaying classic Ladies First tunes from the very first show that aired October 8, 2012. These tracks define the sound of the show--upbeat, styling and now. Started my very show with one of my loves-- The Raincoats, a British all girl punk-band formed in 1977. The band employed a diverse selection of cheap second hand instruments and incorporated folk, dub bass lines, polyrhythmic percussion and elements of free jazz. In the end, what you get is an eclectic mix of musical genres that has proved unexpectedly influential, for many feminist musicians and the Riot Grrrl movement of the 90s.
