I did a rather funny (and odd) thing today - I took the afternoon - TopicsExpress

I did a rather funny (and odd) thing today - I took the afternoon off for me. I went for a walk in the park (without answering emails or doing social media) and basked in its green glory. I indulged in an extra sweet yoga practice, followed by a soothing swim. Then I stuffed myself with over half a dozen tacos and light banter with a colleague, came home, read, had a chocolate cookie, and was, until now, just staring out the window into space. Guess what... it was nice. I wasn’t planning to do this. In fact, this is very UN-me. But after my third breakfast meeting back to back, I stopped and realized the only person I had left to show up for today was me. I had to show up for myself. Life is intense. It often has us running around in circles multitasking feats of super human nature without any chance to stop, rest, and listen. We have endless obligations, fun and not, and people and projects we need to be present for. Yet in all that commotion, it is excessively easy to forget to be present for yourself. As many of you probably see via social media, I am extremely guilty of pretty much never stopping, always going, always doing. But today was a big first step, one I want all you to try with me just once in the next couple weeks. Pick thirty minutes, an hour, or a few hours and set them aside for you. Do not plan them, do not schedule them, just leave them as an open block, your open block. Show up for yourself. If you don’t, no one else will. xx, Lauren
