I did it! I D-I-D IT !! I mean, with all the news Ive heard about voter suppression, ya gotta know I was PRETTY nervous going to vote this evening. I tried to ease into the polling place as inconspicuous as I could you know - just tryin to blend in and not call attention to myself. I was watching for the brown shirts, you know, the jack-booted thugs who were waiting to suppress me and cheat me out of my unalienable right to vote. Well, there I was, waiting in line, just wondering when the hammer would fall. The line was long, and I thought maybe this is part of it, you know, maybe having to stand in line for 25 minutes is just TOO MUCH of a burden for me to bare for the privilege of participating in governing my country. But I suffered on, wondering when the real persecution would begin. Then I got to the sign in desk. Here it was. He was going to demand something just totally unreasonable and burdensome from me - you know, just to deprive me of my chance to participate in the miracle of self-government. I was ready though, I had set myself in preparation for the battle. I certainly would NOT go quietly into the night having been cheated of my God-given right!! And then there it was. The man asked me for ... wait for it... wait for it... he asked me for A PICTURE I.D.!!! O-M-G!!! Here I was. Braced. Determined. Focused and single-minded. So he wanted... what?!? My head began to spin as I struggled to process this... this... HORROR!!! What!! A WHAT!!! I knew it was a trick... but I had to play it through to get to the catch!! Yeah, I knew there was a catch!! So, I pulled out my drivers license... yeah, the DRIVERS license I got when I was... what?... a 16 year old POT SMOKING snot-nosed kid who was barely passing the 10th grade!!! So I pulled that puppy out and I stuck in front of the guy... and I waited... I waited with clenched fists and tight jaw... I was ready... I mean I was SOOOO ready!!! My gaze was fixed on his face as he looked down in his little computer. I studied every detail of his face looking for my queue to leap into action. I was NOT going into the night quietly... I mean - jail?!? So WHAT!!! If this wasnt worth jail, well what is?!? So he handed me my license back and asked me to sign in... SIGN IN!?!? OH, I wasnt falling for that one!! And exactly what was I SIGNING IN for?!? To vote?!? Yeah right. Ok. Ill play along with your little game. So I signed in and was ready to go postal when he told me I had signed away my right to vote. But it didnt go that way. He directed me to a voting machine, and offered to explain to me how to use it... You know, in case I was so stupid I couldnt handle operating a machine that any 4th grader could use... So I voted. Simple as that, I voted. I walked away slowly trying to understand what the catch could be. All the suppression somehow... just missed me!! Maybe it was just a fluke?!? I mean, if all I had to do was present an I.D. that I got when I was a 16-year-old pothead living in the midst of one of the most dysfunctional family dynamics I have ever heard of - if THAT is all I had to present to vote?? Well where is the much heralded voter suppression?? Or is it that Democrats believe that other Americans - just because they are minorities - somehow THESE PEOPLE are not to be considered ABLE to acquire an I.D. that is even 1,000 times simpler than a drivers license?? I mean, with just a picture I.D. you dont even have to pass the driving test!!! Oh well. I guess SOME people just think that minorities are, well, complete morons who cannot be expected to perform the MOST FUNDAMENTAL tasks in our civilization. I mean, thats not me!! But apparently Democrat MUST see it that way. Go figure.
