I did not agree with John Colemans politics and he could be very direct with what he published. There was a charm that had at times, a thin veneer. Blunt, but always with an air of courtesy. That said, there was also something about Mr. Coleman as a journalist that I respected. He was, whatever the point of view, a tireless supporter for the Southtowns. He loved Orchard Park and the paper he published there. In truth, his opinions, while no doubt genuine, dovetailed with many of the town citizenry. And after all, he was in the business of selling newspapers. The Suburban Press, later named the Southtowns Citizen was more than a local newsletter pretending to be a newspaper. It was a newspaper that took on the mission of fostering a sense of community. You dont see that anymore and we are all the poorer for it. It was an honorable trait and I believe that opinions aside, it was something John Coleman worked very hard to engender. RIP, Mr Coleman and condolences to your family and to daughter Desiree, with whom I went to school.
