I did not hear the evidence presented to the Grand Jury, and all I - TopicsExpress

I did not hear the evidence presented to the Grand Jury, and all I know about the shooting by Wilson is what I have read in the media; therefore, I am not in a position to call this a miscarriage of justice. However, a highly experienced prosecutor who is a friend of mine once told me, that if a grand jury fails to indict, it is because the prosector doesnt want an indictment. The fact that the prosector chose to convene a grand jury rather than directly filing charges, failed to request a specific charge from the jury, presented much more evidence than what is typically presented to a grand jury, and failed to recuse himself despite his close relationship with the law enforcement agency, lends credibility that the prosecution did not diligently pursue a prosecution. Furthermore, during the press conference, the Prosecutor Robert McCullugh never expressed his disappointment in failing to get an indictment, but instead talked about how the jury heard of conflicting evidence and a police officer who acted in self defense. He sounded more like a defense attorney! If he wS like this to the jury, no wonder there was no indictment. I feel bad for the citizens of Ferguson who feel like they are living in South Africa with a black overwhelming majority with white officials in charge and a disproportionately white police force. However, the solution is not marching with candles and signs in the street with Reverend Al Sharpton. If African Americans really want to effect structural racism, they had the opportunity earlier this month on election day. Only one in five registered voters cast a ballot this year, and the vast majority of the 80 percent who decided to stay home, were not prohibited from voting due to the draconian voter id laws. They chose not to vote. African Americans, Hispanics, young people, and single women stayed home and accounted for a smaller percentage of the electorate then two years ago. Who voted? Old, conservative, white people. Gerrymandering and voter id laws ONLY work at suppressing the will of the people as long as total turnout remains low. If 90 percent of our population exercised their power, we would experience real change! sbartlettlaw
