I did something last night that Ive never done in 9 years of running Progressive And I cant work out whether it was deserved or if I showed unprofessionalism So I was running an online training for 1394 registered property investors on raising JV finance. Squeezing in as much as I can in the 90 minutes we had... Back to that in a moment You see as Im sure youll know when you do something you love, and you stick your head up, shout about it, try in your small way to change the world, to help people and leave a legacy that means something, you get people who want to chop you down Now as weve gotten used to a very small number of people doing that, Ive gone from being apologetic, to angry, to motivated, to grateful to the few that want to get in our way. Ive come to learn its not about us/me that they are negative/resistant to, it is a reflection of themselves Then when you see them chopping anyone else down who has the courage to stand up and who is on their own (crazy) mission, you realise it really is them (unless of course its a genuine scam) So you learn to embrace the challenge of turning people around. You learn to see the lessons you need to get to stay honest, grounded and humble. To focus on what is most important, which is helping people But last night it was different Someone on the training asked the same old boring questions I must have had 173 times: Q/comment: Get on with it what are you going to sell me (answer: once Ive given you 90 minutes of value a CD set you can try for £20 down - or just take all the information and then leave happy) Q. If youre so rich why dont you give us all the CD set for free (answer: a. you wont value it. b. I also run a training business. A business needs to provide value and make a profit to survive, etc etc) Q. If youre so rich in property why are you running trainings (answer: Im hands off now from my property portfolio. I have 30+ staff, lettings and management, systems and teams. We have 6 businesses and the one I like best is the training company (Progressive). And its a business too. It makes money, blah blah... So for the first time I start getting sucked in. Maybe I should have known better, after all Ive done over 700 talks and trainings. This was a first. But maybe it was just one of those days. So I asked him if he would give me all his money for free, his possessions and all his knowledge, if hed throw in his wife too or if not then maybe he sould just piss off. And I cant work out if that was right or wrong. Should I feel guilty for dropping my professionalism or did he need to know that? Were his questions genuine or should you say what you really feel? What would you have done? Ill share most of the comments I received below :-)
