I did something this morning that I have never done before, I fixed a crack in the street in front of my house. I had called our HOA about the cracks in the streets of our housing addition. They were quick to say that the street maintenance was up to the city, I needed to contact them. I called the city but right now all of their funds and efforts are focused on repairing the storm damage our city received; and rightly so. (There were several small bridges washed out in our area in the floods that occurred at the end of May) I had talked to my neighbor across the street and he said there was a time when people were faced with a challenge they simply got together and solved it. He actually told me that if no one else fixed the crack in the street, he would. I look up to him, he is a VERY good man, but he is also nearly 90 years old. Yesterday I went to Lowe’s and bought a bag of asphalt patch and this morning I went to work. It only took about an hour and a half and cost around $16.00 to do the job. I covered the patch with a light coat of soil; I read this will help the patch cure quicker and not track as much. I figure the Oklahoma sun will take care of the rest. Maybe some folks will say I shouldn’t have done this, physically I am not in the best of health myself and I am certainly not a professional road worker. Honestly though I feel it was a lot better that I do this than leave it up to my neighbor or the city. Only time will tell if I did the right thing.
