I did then what I knew how to do. Now that I know better, I do better. ~Maya Angelou Got an email recently from a gal who wrote: Jill, Ive spent the last couple of years trying to eat a perfect Paleo diet. I’ll do great for a while and then take one bite of something non-Paleo, which leads to a ton more bites and then try to get back on track. I’m ashamed to say because of this perfect-crap-perfect-crap cycle, I’ve put on almost 20 pounds over the last two years. Twenty pounds because I wanted to get really healthy. Hmm, seems there’s something wrong with that formula. How many of us can relate to this??? *hand up* Yes! THIS is the problem with expecting perfection with your eating. We think we can and we *should* be eating perfectly, and then when we inevitably cant -- because nonstop white-knuckle willpower is actually impossible, even for the pros -- we end up overindulging later or use a single slip-up to mean we suck and might as well give up completely. Noooooo. No. Theres a middle option. Theres a way to eat and exercise that allows for flexibility and self-compassion. And the good news? Its actually more effective in the long-run for results. So heres my rationale: Why Expecting Perfect Compliance Makes You Less Compliant and More Miserable. See what you think, and let me know below in the comments!
