I didnt go to the Summer Cut show (had to work), but I must disagree with the assertion that the programming on KXT isnt racially diverse. Maybe this particular concert wasnt diverse, but Ive been listening to the radio in Dallas for almost 40 years, and (KNONs community programming aside) KXT offers more real everyday diversity (not two hour long blocks once a week) than any station here since KZEW in the 70s. The Zoo was an AOR station that programmed artists like Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Miles, Freddie King, Ike and Tina Turner, Marvin Gaye and Sly Stone right in there with Ted Nugent, Peter Frampton and Foghat. For three decades after that, radio in Dallas was steadfastly racially segregated. These days, it isnt unusual to hear Janelle Monáe, TV On The Radio, Mavis Staples, The Relatives, John Legend, Al Green, Gary Clark Jr., Bob Marley, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Bobby Patterson, Anthony Hamilton or any number of other African-American musicians on KXT during the course of a day. You just dont hear those artists on any other station in town. Not without having to tune in by appointment.
