I didnt say anything about this yesterday because my wife wanted - TopicsExpress

I didnt say anything about this yesterday because my wife wanted to announce it (rightfully so), and I wanted to give the 188 (and counting) likers and the 123 (and counting) commenters a chance to chime in with their congratulations. (Where did she get all those friends??!!??) But my wife, Lisa, soon will start her new job as supervisor of public relations at Shriners Hospitals for Children - Tampa. I am so proud of that girl. She worked SO hard to get that new job. And when she got it, it was just another example of us getting just what we needed just when we needed it. God has been good to us. Lisa leaves newspapers after 27 years. I remember back in the late 1980s when she and I started our newspaper careers (if you can call it that!). We both were filled with hope and convinced that it wasnt about the money, but about the cause. Well, there were a few high points along the way. But it has become clear in the past few years that working for newspapers was no longer good for our family. I wish newspapers the best, but I have to admit, Im not optimistic about their future. I just wish the industry had shown a little more foresight about 20 years ago when it was clear that the paradigm was shifting. If youre still in newspapers and looking to get out, keep trying. Believe it or not, the jobs are out there. Lisa had four interviews and two solid job offers in less than two months time. You just have to work hard at it. Thanks to all who encouraged us, helped us and prayed for us during our time of transition, which began in January 2012 when I left newspapers. We love and appreciate all of you. Peace, Mark
