I didnt think David Grohl could do any better on Foo Fighters- - TopicsExpress

I didnt think David Grohl could do any better on Foo Fighters- Sonic Highways than he did last week, featuring Austin. Maybe I have a bias toward the West Coast, but this L.A. segment just nailed it! Everything that was right about - and at the roots of - the edgy side of the scene and the punk influence sat smack in the center of the story, but it really conveyed the sense and senses of community. Joe Walsh plays in the way only he does, giving substance to space by respecting it. The tune that comes out of this session is, far and away, my favorite. This series has been very compelling, thus far. The bar was set pretty high, in my opinion, a conscious, self-imposed part of the process. That was f***in amazing; how do we top that?!? I think theyve already got that one down. Next week, theyll feature New Orleans and, from all indications, theyre well aware of what that represents, as culture, history, and heritage. And, on another, but related note... Ive often thought that Portland was like a distant relation to New Orleans - not holding the wealth of musical history, nor influence, but in the sense of musical community and camaraderie. The lines between genres are blurred here in Portland, although the core of each has a clear identity and, while this isnt as apparent at the fan level, it is on the musical one. In this town an old guy gets the nod of respect, if not accolade. And vice versa.
