I didnt watch Panorama last night as soon as saw they were referring to Apples workforce. No. Wrong. Apple gets a 3rd party called Foxconn to build most of its devices, helped out by Pegatron. Worker conditions are terrible in China compared to the west, yes there have been suicides, under-15s found working on assembly lines, etc, but no mention of Apple working with Foxconn and the Chinese gov to raise standards. Apples workers do less hours, get paid more than 30% more than avg, get health care and have to be over 16. There is much more to do, but Apple is leading the way. So, it turns out that it was just a cheap shot after all, heres the professional opinion from a good friend who works as a journalist in the tech industry. Yet another odd BBC Panorama bashing Apple about its supply chain. Nothing new to report, but much twisted inuendo talking about Apples workforce etc when there is none. The companies are Foxconn, Pegatron and so forth No mention that the Tesco Hudl2 comes from Pegatron too (if i remember the labelling on its back correctly). No mention that Foxconns wages have gone up masively over the last 5 years. No mention that the suicide risk thing they bang on about was at a factory where the suicide rate was somewhat lower than the Chinese national average. I want my license fee back. - Jon Honeyball The BBC is a fallen organisation; the quality of its news reporting, current affairs and investigative reporting is disgraceful.
