I didnt watch last nights live television performance of Peter Pan, but the consensus I am gathering from my newsfeed this morning is that we were all better off with Scarrie Underwear as a governess singing to seven motherless children. I love that we are getting live musical theatre on television again, especially at the holidays, but it IS 2014. American tastes have evolved. Instead of the old standards such as Peter Pan and The Sound of Music, how about a yuletide production like, NBCs Rocky Horror Show, Starring Hillary Swank as Dr. Frank N. Furter? Or what about a production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch with Wynonna Judd in the title role? And why cant they get Latrice Royale to impersonate Pearl Bailey in an old Maytag commercial? Get with the times, NBC. We dont want to clap so a fairy doesnt die! We want a fairy with the clap! Dress Neil Patrick Harris up in Tinkerbell drag and have him scatching furiously at his junk while singing, The Itch is Back.
