I dint like it when people say dont act like a girl to boys. Ive heard it in my own home to my own boys & everytime i bristle. but Ive not been able to pinpoint why in any sort of concrete manner. This lady lays it out for me! YAY! YES! Boys and girls are different. I dont have a problem with that. What i have a problem with is telling a boy whos behavior at that moment is unbecoming to stop acting like a girl. The shooey behavior is the issue & is obviously not based on gender (whining, crying, getting hurt feelings are universal and completely appropriate based on developmental stage not gender). I know loads of girls who are strong, tough, emotionally in control of themselves. I wouldnt mind if my boys modeled their behavior after a vast majority of really awesome woman i know. So i say...go ahead! Act like a girl just dont be a whiney, cry baby HUMAN...its not attractive on a male or a female! To those men in my life who have recently said this to a boy in my presence & acted like i was nuts to say i thought it wasnt an appropriate thing to say. Read this & just think about it. Do you want your boys to inherently believe that women are inferior? What kind of marriage & family life will that lead to? Do you want your boys to feel shameful for having real human emotions? Want them to bottle up their emotions for fear of ridicule which will in all probability manifest itself as rage later down the road? I dont think you do. I know you value & respect your wives.
