I disagree with Terry Bezers piece this week about Green Day and the Hall of Fame (and tbh I quite like Green Day). a) It’s not that my favourite band aren’t in the RNRHOF so Green Day shouldn’t be b) It’s not that Green Day don’t deserve to be in it c) It’s more the complete disregard for history these muppets have. Eg Deep Purple - who famously arent in the HOF- were undoubtedly one of THE pioneering bands of the late 60s/early 70s, the guys who helped define prog, hard rock and laid the ground-work for metal and punk. Yes, punk. They were playing exciting, intense, overdriven music. Obviously the young punks were listening to that shit. Captain Sensible was listening to Santana, Lydon was listening to Genesis, Mick Jones was into Mott. And the band that became Stiff Little Fingers… they were called Highway Star, after the Deep Purple song. And Green Day stole SLF’s act. As proved here by Hollywood: https://m.youtube/watch?v=VK9R3hvWfhU Ergo: no Deep Purple, no Green Day. Thats science!
