I do not believe in abolishing the Government, but I think that I can live with getting rid of the Senate. Unlike the United States, the Prime Minister appoints the Senate - and the only criteria is that he picks the new Senator from the same part of the country that the retired one came from - and Harper could not do that right. Mike Duffy is supposed to have his main residence in PEI - which gave rise to the old joke - What do Anne of Green Gables and Mike Duffy have in common?...... They are both fictional residents of Prince Edward Island. The thing is that he claimed money for that residence - along with fellow Senators Pamela Wallin, Patrick Brasseau (who said on camera that the contents of his shorts were bigger than a party leaders), and Mac Harb.
