I do not blame Dr. Wood in any way. I know that vets typically do not look at the animals being boarded unless the vet tech tells the vet there is a problem with a boarded animal. I blame the vet tech at his boarding facility for not reporting that Heidi needed medical attention and for telling me that Heidi was doing fine! Shes great! each time I called to check on her. When the kids and I picked Heidi up on Tuesday morning, this is waht Heidi looked like. She had lost 11.5 lbs, was eaten up with fleas (the tech told me I should have called to tell them I was picking her up that day....apparently then they would have bathed her), and Heidi wouldnt let any of us pet on her. She wouldnt eat anything that day. The next day (Wednesday) she ate a little dry dog food. This morning she ate some canned dog food and ended up throwing it up and kept throwing up. I took her to the vet here and they immediately put fluids in her, did blood work (to rule out any other illness that may have caused this), fecal test, checked for UTI and had the groomers bathe her for me (I was worried I would hurt her more if I tried to get her in the bathtub by myself). The end result is this: Heidi lost 18% of her body mass (11.5 lbs) in the time she was boarded. Her blood work is normal (good news), no UTI (good news), she had some worms which happens when she ate a flea (treatable so not entirely bad news), and that the only reason she is in this condition is from neglect. Even if Heidi was depressed and stopped eating, the tech should have reported Heidis deteriorated state to the vet who then would have taken care of her and contacted us immediately. Just two days before the tech told us yet again Heidi is doing fine. Shes great!. This is not fine. This is not great. Heidi is now in worse shape than she has ever been in. She looks like one of the rescued animals on that TV show on Animal Planet when people neglect or abuse their pets. Thankful we picked her up when we did. Now to start her recuperation. And file a complaint with necessary entities to ensure this never happens again.
