I do not have anything insightful to say about Renée Zellwegers new look except that it reminds me of Salman Rushdie. Hear me out: In Oxford, England, in 1997, I attended a reading at a coffee house given by Salman Rushdie and another author of a collection of non-controversial short stories. The fatwa was still a thing, and I was told Rushdie had undergone facial reconstruction surgery in order to stay outta sight of extremists willing to murder him. His mere presence merited personnel with guns, the only time I have seen that in any trip to the UK. I bring it up because whenever I see contemporary pictures of Salman Rushdie, he bears almost no resemblance to the voluble-seeming author of some funny short stories (as well as The Satanic Verses, etc.) whose reading I attended. Which makes me wonder whether hes had more surgery since 97, or whether one of them is Not Salman.
