I do not know if there is validity to this story or not... it may be categorized as an urban legend.... it supposedly happened a few years ago... A vacationing woman traveled from Houston to Los Angeles. While there, she went into an ice cream shop and ordered a delicious flavor. While she was waiting for her cone to be prepared, she glanced casually to her right… and almost fainted! Sitting there at the counter right beside her was Paul Newman. She had always been “crazy about” the famous actor. She had a secret crush on the man... and there he was, close enough to touch! She couldn’t believe it… she was so excited and so nervous. She decided to be suave, and strong, and to maintain her composure. Obviously she didnt want to do anything that would draw undue attention to herself. She paid for her ice cream… (and discreetly fanning her flushed face) went outside… proud of how disciplined and poised she had been in the presence of her idol. But, out on the sidewalk, she realized she didn’t have her ice cream cone. She was so embarrassed, but she thought: “I wanted that ice cream cone. I paid for it… and I’m going to go back in there and get it!” Back inside, she told the clerk: “I didn’t get my ice cream cone. I paid for it and didn’t get it!” “Well, I gave it to you,” answered the clerk. “You can see,” she said, “that I don’t have it.” Then Paul Newman spoke up and said: “Lady, you put it in your purse!!!” Not quite what she expected... and the surprise ending is not what I expected either!
