I do not understand Astrology, and hence do not believe in it. But I do not ridicule others belief in various predictive sciences like it.[ Half the world follows it, in one form or the other ] That brings me to the latest Mars mission and many commentaries on why Indians now should shun the mumbo-jumbo on Astrological references and imbibe SCIENTIFIC TEMPER. The absence of Rational Thinking in India, by itself, is a problem that has nothing to do with Astrological references. After the 6th century, no intellectual movement , based on Rationality, took place here, secure in the belief of being self proclaimed Jagad-guru [teachers of the World ] . 14th Century saw the revival of Bhakti movement which further put Rationality to rest. Only the early 19th Century witnessed some movements in Religious Rationality around Bengal and Punjab [ Arys samaj, Brahmo samaj etc]. At the epoch of a new beginning now, with fresh breath of hope generated, our present rulers would do better if they shun the likes of Batras and other advocates of old Hindutva school of thinkers, and allow Scientists, Mathematicians and other Rational thinkers to re-orient the design and delivery of Indian Education. Narendra K. Jaggi Dattaprasad Bopardikar Chintan Shah and other thinkers may respond. Chintan, actually your post today and Chetan Bhagats article in TOI, motivated me to write this post. I am starting a fresh blog site on Indian education where you may post your constructive ideas.
