I dont agree with all of Friedmans solutions, but do like his putting political rhetoric in its place. He makes an excellent point about creating an energy glut which will increase our energy independence and weaken Russias hold on Europe. This is a long-term strategy to correct our engineered weakness of years. Our immediate weakness, not mentioned by Friedman, is that Russia holds $200-billion in our debt, which he could dump on the market, then side with China to remove the dollar as the worlds reserve currency. If China sides with Putin and also dumps US debt, they can hurt us. Here, again, we engineered our own weakness and can at least begin to correct it now that its obvious.
