I dont always find great enjoyment in publicly shaming - TopicsExpress

I dont always find great enjoyment in publicly shaming people/venues. That said, time to publicly shame yet another. However this one pains me to do. First a little background: You must know, Durban and specifically The Winston Pub has always been one of our favourite gigs to play. Weve had some of our most memorable shows there, like the one where Destiny the stripper joined us on stage and horrified our feminist fans whilst simultaneously exciting most of our other fans. We also met most of our Durban besties at the pub. In short, The Winston was probably our favourite venue in the whole of SA. Belinda, the owner, used to always take great care of us and over the years we developed a real sense of family, even sometimes foregoing bigger venues to opt for the rawness of The Winston. Belinda has since sold the pub and earlier this year we were approached by Matthew Scott Olivier (facebook/mattytothemax). He committed in writing to a nominal set fee for us and Brafcharge which would essentially contribute to our travel costs from Jozi. After the show we were paid in cash with the promise that Brafcharges money would be EFTed. It has been months since that show, we have followed up with Matt countless times, he has promised to make good on his agreement but has essentially just given us the run around for months and obviously has no intention of making good on his commitments. Shortly after this gig The Slashdogs performed a show at The Winston and were similarly short-changed. It takes a special kind of person to allow a band to drive up to Durban at their own expense, put them on stage and then cheat them out of the money that was agreed upon. It is for the reasons above that sadly Cortina have decided to not play any further shows at The Winston until further notice. We also strongly urge any bands performing at The Winston to get their money upfront.
