I dont always speak up on public issues or issues that are - TopicsExpress

I dont always speak up on public issues or issues that are trending, not because they are not important. But, I am prioritizing certain things in my life. However, I felt compelled to talk about this Ray Rice video a little bit. I dont know what was said between them...but it doesnt really matter. The fact is that there was a conflict and whatever happened between them led to physical violence. He hit her, she apparently hit her head on the metal bar in the elevator and got knocked out cold. Here is where my issue begins. A man who lifts weights daily, is paid to attempt to run THROUGH people for a living, then proceeds to stand over her, drags her out of the elevator, drops her on the floor, recognizes that her underwear may be a little exposed as he has dropped her on the floor so he kicks her legs together to give her a little privacy. This lady is no more than 130lbs and I may be exaggerating. They then GET MARRIED! Now, people lose their tempers. I get that. People can be provoked. I get that. But, even after the initial violence, there was a TOTAL lack of concern displayed. He could have lifted her out of the elevator or at least held the elevator and called for help if he happened to be injured and couldnt lift 130 lbs. Ladies, even if this is a one time incident, I recommend that you run FAR FAR FAR away. The punch, maybe you can chalk up to an accident. But, the lack of concern after indicates something much deeper. Love yourself enough to protect yourself. If you get hit and treated that way, there is something else going on and no immediate amount of apology changes that. RUN FAR AWAY at least until you are certain that the other person has had enough courage to face their issues and get the proper help. Forgive them as quickly as you are emotionally, mentally and spiritually able to. But, forgiveness doesnt equal therapy. Run away! Allow them to get help. They need to CHOOSE help!! On the airplane, you have to put on your oxygen mask first before helping someone else. RUN AWAY!! Get your oxygen! And stay away until they CHOOSE spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional health and wellbeing. My sermon for today. Im complete!
