As a society we appear to love violence in certain of our sports (such as football, boxing, hockey, and soccer in some countries.) We hire guys that will beat each other to a pulp and we reward them hugely for doing so; we (really nice people who would never be violent) sit around yelling and screaming for them to kill each other. So REALLY, we expect them to be able to turn that deep and intense emotion and behavior off, and behave like normal loving people, the rest of the time? And we punish them, not because they do stuff, but because they get caught doing it? I am not defending Ray Rice, I am just saying the responsibility for his behavior does not end at his door.
