I dont do this often, but the need is extremely high among innocent civilians caught in this horrible armed conflict between Israel and Hamas and that is why I have placed an open letter of appeal by the project manager of one of the oldest hospitals (focused on the handicapped and the elderly) in Gaza City, run by AMAIDIs partner El Wafa Charitable Society, where the dead and wounded are brought in every day: ----------- Ramadan 14, 1435 July 12, 2014 SUBJECT: Urgent call of distress Ogathohm in the month of mercy Your excellency, May the peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. First, I would like to begin by thanking you for your efforts in servicing the Palestinian people. In regards to the subject line above, the El Wafa Charitable Society of the southern province of Gaza, Palestine extends its appreciation and gratitude to Your Organization for supporting the Palestinian people. We are also thankful for the effective and numerous contributions to help raise and improve the El Wafa Charitable Society and its various segments, including the patients, disabled, and elderly as its leading segments. Your excellency may be very aware that, beginning Monday, 9 Ramadan 1435 (7 July 2014), our people have been experiencing unjust aggression and a very fierce and frantic war. From then and up until the very moment of writing this current appeal, 795 people have been wounded, and 107 lives have been taken, 45 of which are of women and children. More than 100 homes have been completely destroyed, and more than 512 homes have been partially demolished, leading to the displacement of 224 families. This war has come in light of the month of Ramadan, after years of already living under limited and tight humanitarian aid conditions. Living under such tight siege has prevented access to the basic materials needed for life and its efficiency. This has, in turn, negatively affected a majority of Gazas population and its sectors, including the health sector. For instance, about 45% of in-stock medications and 35% of medical materials have already been exhausted. It is at this point, then, that we request a helping hand so that we may be better able to serve our people. Your past responses have always been positive, and so we look forward that you may take this opportunity to help. We call onto your generosity and nobility to extend a helping hand to save the lives of those who have been wounded and are in dire need of healing their wounds and relieving their pain. Your generosity will also help secure emergency relief aid and will help shelter those who are affected, which is estimated to be 1872 people. Finally, we hope that you will be able to provide a financial grant for the hospital in which we can continue to treat patients, provide them with medications and medical supplies, and purchase fuel to run generators in light of the large and constant interruptions by incessant shelling. With all due respect and appreciation, Engineer Saeb Fayez Zaanin Project Manager [email protected]
