I dont do very much of this but I felt a need to do so. Im one of the people who got in touch with the Office of Alumni Relations in order to plan and implement this Alumni of Color Reunion. (If you didnt notice, my name was at the bottom of the letter that went out.) For all of you who have not set foot on campus or have even attempted to reach out to the institution that contributed greatly to who and where you are today to be so overly sensitive and judgmental about the phrase Alumni of Color Reunion I say: relax. Yes, the intent was to make you feel singled out. We owe so much to the students that came after us just as the students who came before you poured effort into the BSU, NPHC organizations, the IRC and academic departments gave to your classes. If youd like to participate in the planning, please do. Otherwise, please keep your negative comments to yourself. Be grateful that the College recognizes the lack of support from underrepresented groups and wants to rectify it. Be thankful that there are alum who want to ensure that our legacy lives on. Dont act with self righteousness if youre not going to do anything to fix the problem.
