I dont ever really have an excuse to be a lousy person with a father like mine. Even if I didnt meet him for the first time until I was a toddler... My father; who is 60 now, freshly diagnosed with Parkinsons and piloting a tired body from throwing big hammers and wrenches his whole life, came down monday night to help me rewire This Old House - Even though my accident has put me weeks behind in the remodeling. From Tuesday morning until a few minutes ago, sun up to sundown we have been busting sheetrock, throwing insulation, dropping ceiling fans, drilling holes, nailing boxes, stripping wire, gluing pvc, wiring receptacles, playing spider man in the attic, and laughing like the old days. My favorite times with him are when are working on something, we can finally be ourselves because we are both too polite to say certain things in certain company. And its how Ive become knowledgeable about so many things, I watch him do it once and I do it the second time - he was always helping someone and I was always helping him. At 17 I rebuilt my first car engine by myself (well my girlfriend at the time Amber Irons helped) because by then we had already fixed the neighbors car and my moms car, and there I was at his side, joking and learning. Hundreds of projects later, now I know how to wire/rewire a whole house, what goes where and why and what will happen if you dont. I havent had time (or electricity) to check my emails, texts, or fb lately, I will get back to yall with your quotes and to answer those questions later tonight or tomorrow Im sure. Thanks everyone for checking up on me, and Im sorry to worry a few of you -- Im ok - just been busy. My ribs are aggravated after all the heavy work Ive been doing, but Im not dead or anything. And I dont wanna hear it. I wouldnt trade it for anything, all that worrying about the fresh mountain of bills and being worthless on the couch - Spending a week with my dad doing what we do best was the perfect medicine.
