I dont feel very strongly about Sony as an organization. I dont - TopicsExpress

I dont feel very strongly about Sony as an organization. I dont know how I feel about ANY organization, to be honest. Theyre entities which consist of men and women working together under a certain business model to meet their end, which is unequivocally to profit. But what I DO feel strongly about is free speech, and the fact of the matter is that Sony wasnt actually responsible for bowing to terrorist demands. They werent the ones who acquiesced to the threats, and they didnt exercise self-censorship in the face of pressure. The ones ACTUALLY responsible for censorship were the many theater chains which decided not to screen the movie for fear of being victim to terrorism. All of the most important theater chains in the world made the decision to pull the Seth Rogan and James Franco film. What Sony ACTUALLY did in light of this was decide to postpone the release date and reasses their plans. They never planned to pull the movie, they just had to figure out what to do to ensure that the maximum number of people would have the opportunity to see it, and that was never going to be possible by releasing it in a market where it wasnt even going to be screened. I just think its important to acknowledge this. Sony arent the cowards everyone is making them out to be. They did the right thing. IN FACT, to their credit, they went forward and released the movie online TODAY for everyone to see. I care more about free expression than anyone Ive ever known, and thats why I bothered to get to the bottom of this. Sony did the right thing here, and we should all support their courageous decision to release the film by going online and watching The Interview. Give them the support they surely deserve.
