I dont fetishize technical skill in music. Im not trying to sound - TopicsExpress

I dont fetishize technical skill in music. Im not trying to sound snobby or holier-than-thou, but I kind of hate it, and I push back against it aggressively, even when Im trying to develop my own technical skills. I sit on my chair and practice modes or whatever and randomly step on the crappiest fuzz I own (Ibanez FZ-7, damage setting on 100%), and stick a toilet bolt in the strings or whatever, because I want some chaos in my diet and I sometimes want music to remind me that were really just meat on a stick. Usually, Id rather listen to a bad recording of Hubert Sumlin on a bad day or Arto Lindsay going apeshit than go wow that guy can play - thats real music man! A guitar being thrown down the stairs is often more interesting to me than someone who has tone or chops. So it took me a long time to come to terms with Pat Martino because he is so f*cking suave, technically speaking. But this is deep, deep shit, and Ive been coming back to him pretty consistently for the past year or so because...well, because he is awesome and his playing is transcendent and so musical it makes the whole freaking enterprise worthwhile. And I kind of wish I could play like that. https://youtube/watch?v=Ql_bHgaQQZE
